Day 12

 Day 12: None of us were too thrilled about it being the last day of our trip. We roused ourselves at the unholy hour of 5:30 am in magical Sohra ( sense of Déjà vu ) , freshened up, and Girnar masala readymix was already on tea duty. By 7:30 am, our faithful guide-cum-driver Rajesh arrived, and we bid goodbye to the mesmerizing landscapes as we headed back to Guwahati.

Along the way, soulful music floated through the car (courtesy our Saarthi’s love for Zubin Garg playlist) ; some of us caught sleepy moments while others soaked in the winding mountain trails. A quick tea stop at a Punjabi dhaba kept spirits (and caffeine levels) high.


Upon arrival in Guwahati, we visited the iconic Kamakhaya Temple, ancient but unmistakably commercialized like many popular temples in India. The beauty of the temple was undeniable, though the sight of ritual animal sacrifices took some time to get used to. After soaking in the temple ambiance for about 30 minutes, airport-bound we went.




At the airport, it was a careful game of luggage Tetris to meet weight limits. Thankfully, Akasa Airlines came to the rescue, magically managing our 7 kg excess baggage without drama. The flight was slightly delayed, so while Vaidy dove into his book, K caught up on a much-needed nap, and S  had fun capturing  these candid moments. Takeaway . . .  Manage luggage better next time !!

We got back to Mumbai well in time on Friday night . Great planning by our own in house travel enthusiasts S & K that we got a relaxed weekend before getting back to routine.

What a trip it was! Every day and every spot was memorable, making this journey a “superhit” in any travel diary.

    What a pitch-perfect wrap, you turned even airport luggage Tetris and delayed-flight drowsiness into a blockbuster closing scene, ending the saga with your trademark humour and warmth. This final chapter sealed it: truly a “superhit” journey, narrated so vividly that we readers felt like co-travellers till the very last frame.

  This is a day to day account of our 12 day trip to the North East part of India. We covered Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. ‘We’ consisted of myself – Vaidy , K and S , friends and co travelers having done a few trips together earlier. Day 1 ’s adventure began at an hour that’s illegal in most civilised nations: 2:30 am. Like sleep-deprived ninjas, we stumbled into our pre-booked cab at 3:15, dragging both luggage and whatever was left of our dignity, for an Indigo flight that believed in “early bird gets the Brahmaputra.” Touchdown in Guwahati was followed by a sluggish carousel war for baggage and a frantic “Where’s Rajesh ji?” scavenger hunt. Day 2

  Day 2 : We kicked off the day at a leisurely 8:35 am  - basically afternoon by our previous day’s schedule  - and launched ourselves out of Guwahati, aiming for Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh. Little did we know, we were signing up for a full-blown “highway to the mountains” marathon, punctuated with random “bio breaks” and the occasional energy bar diplomacy. One of the highlights of course was the break to see the proposed memorial sight of the talented Zubeen Garg (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zubeen_Garg) Along the way we also got to see the local giant sized lemon at the veggie stall ( As a choice we had opted for Air BNB and self cooking at all places, so the occasional stops at fruit/vegetable stalls was a routin feature of our entire trip )  The real adventure wasn’t the winding roads or the missing roadside Dhabas  - it was our pumping-heart GPS challenge. Day 3

  Day 3 : The miracle of the morning was “Chef” K’s poha  - so fluffy even Insta influencers would approve. This culinary masterpiece was paired with adrak chai by your’s truly , sipped with all the gravitas of mountain monarchs. The elusive hot water made a guest appearance, though in a classic twist, K was left shivering while the geyser played favourites. Fueled by breakfast, and an AM production of “Who Gets the Shower First”, we braved the spiritual heights of Dirang Monastery and then set our sights on Sangti Valley. Here, epic scenery was occasionally upstaged by allergies  - shoutout to Vaidy's nose and swollen face for its relentless drama. S got an opportunity to showcase/show off  the camera of the 1+ new mobile and also the newly acquired DJi osmo pocket 3camera making it’s maiden outing.
